It was an emotional victory for the Police women’s volleyball team which beat Army by three-straight sets to successfully defend its title.

A day before the competition, team player Moli Karanavatu lost her mother.

According to the 38-year-old police Sergeant, her mum was her pillar of strength and always encouraged her to play.

“I went and visited her at the morgue this morning and I know my team members had excused me to be with my family. But if my mum would have been here she would have urged me to play,” she said.

She added she was touched by the support shown from her team members as they dedicated the win to her late mum.

“I have been playing with them for sometime now. I played at national level with some of them and we also play club games together. I can say it is an honour to be a member of this team and I thank them.”

Karanavatu represented the national team from 2006-2008.

She has spent 17 years in the force and said she was looking forward to the games next year.
